12 October 2007 17:02

A new report has highlighted a skills shortage in the UK's capital, it has been revealed.

According to the results of the report by London's mayor Ken Livingstone, the city's jobless levels are among the highest in the country.

The report also identified a need to target additional funds to provide training to the most disadvantaged members of the community, reports Personnel Today.

"London's economy is highly successful and we must continue to build on this success," said Mr Livingstone.

"The key to this is ensuring London and Londoners have the skills needed to compete for business and jobs," he added.

Dubbed the London Story report, it also contains a challenge to the city's employers, calling upon them to improve the proficiency levels of London's workforce.

In related news, the State of London's Children Report has found that employment and income deprivation in the capital is impacting upon the future prospects of a number of groups, including children.
