Employee depression 'caused by management failure'

A number of failures at the managerial level can lead to feelings of depression in employees, it has been claimed.
According to the results of a study, reported in the American Journal of Public Health, should management fail to support employees who are finding themselves unable to cope at work - among other things - this failure may lead to higher stress levels and, in turn, depression, reports Management Issues.
Indeed, stress at work can cause a number of physical conditions, including high blood pressure and heart disease.
"Everyone feels a bit low sometimes - it's the mental health equivalent of the common cold. But for some people it's much more serious, paralysing their ability to get on with life," said James Tighe for the BBC.
"Those closest to you will often be able to recognise the early signs of depression," he added.
Depression can be identified through a number of symptoms, including a reduced libido and a short temper.
