Internet restrictions 'can reduce vulnerability online'

The implementation of employee restrictions on the use of the internet can reduce the online vulnerability of small to medium-sized enterprises, it has been claimed.
According to comments made by Get Safe Online, the implementation of a certain number of rules for using the internet can help reduce the risk of data being passed outside of the business.
Among the suggestions for restrictions included the possible prohibition of social networking sites.
"One of the big issues of today is data leaking out of your system [which] may not just be from someone outside hacking in; it may be from someone inside who deliberately passes on information or accidentally," said Tony Neate, managing director of Get Safe Online.
Get Safe Online is an enterprise involving a number of organisations, including the Serious Organised Crime Agency and the UK government.
Although there are a number of different social networking sites available, Facebook and Myspace are among the most popular in the UK.
