Happy employees 'help a company thrive'

20 September 2007 17:08

Employees who are happy at work will ultimately contribute to the success of a business, it has been suggested.

Wellbeing expert Nic Marks, a speaker at the Chartered Institute for Personnel Development's (CIPD) annual conference, said that companies would be wise to promote the happiness of their workers.

"Employee wellbeing is becoming increasingly important as organisations realise the link between happy, healthy staff and their long-term success," he remarked.

"By measuring and focusing on wellbeing at work, we can create good jobs - and good jobs not only benefit employees, but also employers."

He recommended that firms encourage positive reactions, share good practice and engage in "wellbeing audits".

The recent Times Top 100 Graduate Employers for 2007 ranked PricewaterhouseCoopers, Deloitte and KPMG as the three most popular places for graduates to work, which may suggest that those with accountancy jobs are happy in their positions.
