Graduates 'can bring new ideas to a company'

19 September 2007 17:28

Hiring graduates can be beneficial to organisations because they bring fresh ideas to the floor, it has been suggested.

Co-founder of the Graduate Recruitment Bureau Dan Hawes said that employers "want a graduate because they’re still learning and they bring new ideas and different viewpoints".

His comments come after a 2007 survey by the Association of Graduate Recruiters found that vacancies for graduates are expected to rise by 12.7 per cent. Last year's actual increase in vacancies was 5.2 per cent.

Mr Hawes explained that it is important for firms to select the right candidate for their positions, saying: "[Companies] may be looking for someone with a specific degree … and then looking for something about them, that x-factor that means they're likely to fit in and get on with the way a … company runs."

He added that graduates who are hoping to increase their chances of getting hired may want to get some office experience under their belts before entering the job market.
