Nationwide adds carbon offsetting to benefits scheme

4 September 2007 17:10

In news which could be of interest to those seeking finance jobs, Nationwide has announced that carbon offsetting will become part of its flexible benefits plan.

Under the scheme, employees will be able to put a portion of their flex allowance towards an environmental charity each month, employeebenefits.co.uk reports.

Staff at the building society who want to make a difference can calculate their carbon footprint using an online tool, then allocate funds from their flex allowance to carbon-offsetting charity PURE.

Rosemary Crabb, reward analyst for Nationwide, told the news provider: "We decided to adopt this new flexible benefit because we are committed to managing and operating in a sustainable way and we know that staff are interested in initiatives which support sustainability objectives and culture."

In related news, the website reported that the Royal Bank of Scotland Group is introducing text messaging to communicate benefit information to its employees.
