Pensions and PMI top list of favourite benefits

23 August 2007 17:06

Pensions and personal medical insurance (PMI) are the benefits which are most valued by UK workers, according to new research.

The Health of the Nation survey, undertaken by BUPA, reveals that 72 per cent of employees value pensions, while 50 per cent think PMI is very important.

Flexible working hours (40 per cent), performance-related bonuses (33 per cent) and a car allowance (25 per cent) come next in the list.

Ann Greenwood, director of business markets at BUPA Health Insurance, said that the findings reflect people's changing attitudes towards healthcare.

"People [are] keen to have more control of their healthcare options, rather than leaving it to chance," she remarked.

"Alongside this, employers are coming under increasing pressure to improve productivity, reduce absence and manage a workforce that is not only getting older, but is also affected by lifestyle-related health issues like obesity and smoking."

In related employment news, a recent study by Ernst & Young revealed that the opportunity for training was the factor most likely to influence graduates looking for a job.
