Self-promotion 'can boost marketers' salaries'

20 August 2007 17:56

Those who are working in marketing jobs have been given advice about how to increase their salaries.

According to recommendations by utalkmarketing.com, a combination of research, timing and strategic self-promotion can pave the way to higher earnings.

When meeting with a boss, make sure the time is right and they are not in the middle of a crisis, the site says.

"Wait until [they are] in good humour, perhaps having just returned from holiday or having just won a big account and ask to have a private word," suggests career consultant Sherridan Hughes.

During the discussion, highlighting outstanding projects an employee has been a part of, as well as any expectations which have been exceeded, can help marketers plead their case, the website adds.

"Be clear about why you think you deserve a pay rise. Be able to demonstrate how the company's profits and growth can be attributed to your activities," it advises.

Recently, a study by Veronis Suhler Stevenson predicted that online marketing would exceed print marketing by 2011.
