Digital marketing skills command larger salaries

2 August 2007 17:48

Marketers with digital marketing skills can earn nearly 50 per cent more than their counterparts only equipped with traditional skills, reveals new research.

Search marketing managers can command some of the best salaries, earning up to £80,000, according to the study by utalkmarketing.com.

While a marketing executive will earn £21,000 on average, if they are equipped with digital marketing skills the figure rises to an average of £28,000 - an increase of a third.

Meanwhile, a marketing manager with traditional marketing skills will earn an average of £31,000, but if they have understanding of SEO and other skills, they will find themselves commanding an average of £45,000.

Consultancy director Toby Thwaites said: "Digital marketing is the biggest area of growth by far. There is still a lot of mystery surrounding the practice and the technology involved both in-house and for agencies.

"It's a younger industry with less people and their skills are in short supply. Rapid growth has meant a rapid inflation of salaries in the sector as employers bid for the best candidates."
