Career ideas 'vary' between students

24 October 2007 17:06

Levels of student career focus fall into three different categories, it has been claimed.

According to comments by Elspeth Farrar, communications director for the Association of Graduate Careers Advisory Services (AGCAS), students generally fall into three different categories, with some having clear objectives that are solidified over their time at university.

However, others are less career-focused and may either change their aspirations over time or may not really know what they want to do - and choose a university degree based solely on it being a subject they like to study.

"There is a longstanding theoretical underpinning to careers and vocational choice," said Ms Farrar.

"You help the individual build a picture for themselves and of how they would best fit into a working environment," she added.

AGCAS works with a number of partner organisations and practitioners around the world, in addition to those located within the UK and Ireland.
