Australia's prime minister is reported to be travelling to Melbourne to make an announcement related to unemployment, it has emerged.
According to reports by the Age, prime minister John Howard is expected to make an announcement over plans to reduce the country's unemployment levels down to a total of three per cent.
In 1996, Australia had an unemployment level of 8.2 per cent.
"We've got a very important announcement to make which will underpin our aim to drive unemployment down to three per cent in our next term," said Mr Howard to Sydney's Macquarie Radio.
"And it's very relevant to future skills development in this country," he added.
During the show, Mr Howard confirmed that unemployment has fallen from its 1996 total to 4.2 per cent in September.
Mr Howard has been Australia's prime minister since 1996.
