Funding is to be made available for the provision of training for would-be accountants, it has emerged.

According to reports by the Liverpool Daily Post, those living in the region surrounding Liverpool and between the ages of 16 and 18 may be eligible to receive training worth a total of £15,000 in the field of accountancy.

The apprenticeship tuition is being offered by training firm Kaplan Financial.

"We recognise the fact there's a skills shortage in the industry and we want to help. We also want to give something to the community," said Jaine Davies, a lecturer at Kaplan in Liverpool.

"We believe this scholarship offers an excellent opportunity for an individual to progress in a career in accountancy through the work-based learning route," she added.

Under the terms of the sponsorship, certain schools within the region are to be charged with the task of selecting a total of five students, who will then be given the opportunity to compete for a place.

Kaplan Financial operates in the UK and Asia-Pacific region.
