A study has unveiled the cost of this year's Christmas party hangovers.
According to the results of a survey by Travelodge, hangovers caused by Christmas party drinking will result in lost workplace productivity worth a total of £790 million.
The study was based upon the responses of 4,500 employees.
"It's not just sleep that can cure the effects of a big night out, it's also what you do before and after," said Leigh McCarron, a representative from Travelodge.
"Always drink plenty of water before going to bed and first thing in the morning eat a healthy breakfast," she added.
The survey also found that, on average, respondents had the expectation that two hours and 18 minutes of their post-party working day would be spent staring vacantly into space.
A number of different substances have been suggested as remedies for hangovers, including dietary supplements such as RU-21, vitamin B6 and also tolfenamic acid, a substance used to treat migraine symptoms.
