ICAEW review decision 'criticised'

The decision by the Institution of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) to not review disciplinary procedures has been criticised.
According to reports by Accountancy Age, the decision of the ICAEW to not review the procedures, in order to determine whether they are consistent with legislation governing human rights, has been criticised by the Society of Professional Accountants (SPA), an organisation established in 1996.
The cost of the review was estimated by the ICAEW to be £30,000.
"It would be a small cost, as disciplinaries impact on every member," said Peter Mitchell, chairman of the SPA and council member of the ICAEW.
"We're moving into a new arena, it would have been sensible to have had this in place: they haven't gone the extra mile," he added.
The last time a review of this nature was conducted was in 1999.
