A new report by Sainsbury Centre for Mental Health has highlighted a number of issues surrounding psychological health within the workplace.

Dubbed, Mental Health at Work: Developing the business case, the report found that the annual cost of mental health could be broken down and represented as approximately £1,000 for every employee within the UK.

Collectively, workplace mental health issues generate business costs of over £25 billion every year.

Among the symptoms of mental distress are anxiety, depression and anger.

"Employers need to be aware of mental health as it affects every workplace in the UK. It is a normal part of the human condition," Bob Grove, employment programme director for the Sainsbury Centre for Mental Health.

"Yet most employers vastly underestimate how many of their staff will have mental health problems," he added.

The report also discovered that while at work, out of every five employees, one will experience feelings of psychological distress.
