Mothers express concerns over festive work-life balance

19 December 2007 17:00

Over three-quarters of working mothers feel pressured when attempting to sustain a good work-life balance before Christmas, new research has revealed.

The survey by technology firm Citrix Online and webzine Mother@Work also suggested that more than half of respondents have had to resort to using their annual holiday entitlement in order to give their children adequate care in the Christmas holidays.

About two in five of those polled stated that being able to work from home would help them to juggle their home and work priorities more efficiently, with a similar number calling for more flexible hours.

"Achieving a balance between work and home life is becoming increasingly important for parents," commented Bernardo de Albergaria, vice president of Citrix Online.

"By accommodating their requests for flexible working, employers can reap the benefits of a happy, motivated workforce, which will in turn positively effect productivity and loyalty."

According to research by the Institute for Social and Economic Research carried out earlier this month, British mothers tend to be happier when they are holding down a job.ADNFCR-1129-ID-18401175-ADNFCR
