A tax haven in the Channel Islands is being targeted by a significant number of online casino applications, it has emerged.
According to reports, as a consequence of modifications to the UK's regulations governing online casino and poker operations, a significant number of firms are looking to establish themselves on the Channel Island location of Alderney.
The island is a dependency of the UK.
"When all of your competitors are based offshore, from a business point of view it makes sense," said the Tote betting agency, a firm with operations in Curacao, in a report by the Financial Times.
However, the firm plans to move its operations away from its current Caribbean island location to Alderney.
Robin Le Prevost, head of e-commerce at the Alderney Gambling Control Commission, added in the report: "They [Totesport] clearly couldn't stay in Curacao. The decision was: should they go to a white-listed jurisdiction or should they go to the UK."
