Disabled job 'experience difficulties' with recruitment

Disabled job candidates can find it difficult to find a job, especially within a small to medium-sized enterprise (SME), it has been claimed.
According to Phil Friend, the director and co-founder of consultancy and support organisation Minty & Friend, particularly within SMEs, those with disabilities find it difficult to locate an employer willing to give them a job.
Mr Friend believes that an employer can reject disabled candidates if they consider the disability to be a problem for the firm.
"The big organisations, because they've got the resources, [human resources] and those kinds of things, are much more switched on to the issue," said Mr Friend.
"Where there's the real challenge is the [SMEs], because they don't have the same resources, they don't have the time to spend."
In related news, figures released by support organisation Leonard Cheshire Disability, in partnership with easyJet, illustrates that, of those individuals within the UK who have a long-term disability, around half are not employed.
