The BBC is to transfer an increased number of jobs to its media city in the north-west of the UK.
Known as mediacity:uk, the new development is to become home to a number of divisions, including the organisation's Future Media & Technology division, in addition to a number of journalists.
The announcement was made by Caroline Thomson, chief operating officer for the BBC, on January 11th at Huddersfield University.
Mediacity:uk will open in Salford, Greater Manchester.
"As part of the BBC's drive to become less London-centric and more deeply rooted in the whole of the UK, we will be moving a significant number of additional staff to the new media centre in Salford Quays," said Ms Thomson.
Consequently, slightly more than 1,620 positions at the BBC will relocate out of London to the north-west.
The BBC will locate its office space on the ninth pier of Salford Quays.
