Loyalty of older employees 'in decline'

14 January 2008 17:25

The loyalty levels of older employees are falling, it has been claimed.

According to a report by the Sydney Morning Herald, employers in Australia are now in a position where they are unable to rely upon either more mature workers, or those on higher incomes, to maintain levels of loyalty towards the company.

The findings were obtained by Linkme.com.au, in an online poll of more than 1,225 individuals.

"This blows the perception [of] wealthy and mature workers being loyal right out of the water," said Campbell Sallabank, chief executive of Linkme.

"Job loyalty is out the window for Aussies of all ages as the Generation Y ethos of quick money, quick success and fast promotion spreads across the Aussie workplace."

The survey found that, of those between the ages of 41 and 55, 82 per cent were actively seeking new employment opportunities as a consequence of "personal reasons".

Linkme.com.au offers users a number of different services, including career management tools, blogs and networking opportunities.
