Job improvement 'preferable' to new starts

Britons would rather work on getting further in the existing place of employment, it has been claimed.
According to the results of a study for the Learning and Skills Council (LSC), 54 per cent of employees would rather opt for working to improve their career at their existing place of employment, rather than apply for a new position.
Indeed, 40 per cent confirmed a willingness to ask for developmental training.
"This research reveals a clear need for employers to change their attitude to training if they are to reduce staff turnover and boost morale," said Jaine Clarke, director of skills for employers at the LSC, an organisation established in 2001.
"This is now easier than ever before thanks to our Train to Gain Service, which offers independent, impartial advice at no cost to the employer."
However, of those surveyed, 16 per cent confirmed a preference to taking a position elsewhere.
