PwC provided free advice to PM

30 January 2008 15:12

Free accountancy advice was given to Gordon Brown during his campaign for the post of prime minister, it has emerged.

According to reports by Accountancy Age, the free advice was provided by PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), which maintains that despite the decision, it continues to be an apolitical organisation.

The firm has also, in the past, offered advice on matters relating to private finance initiative deals.

"We provided tax and financial advice to his leadership campaign fund. It was provided purely on a pro-bono basis," said a representative for PwC to the publication.

"[However,] we remain apolitical."

The gift by PwC was entered into the register of members' interests by Gordon Brown.

After initially being published shortly after the start of a new parliament, the register of members' interests is released on an annual basis.

In between publications, any updates can be viewed by members of the public in the Committee Office of the House of Commons.
