Service-orientated accountants 'demanded by SMEs'

Small to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the UK need their accountants to be more service-orientated, it has been claimed.
According to the results of a study by accountancy finder service Just Accountants, the primary motivation behind an SMEs decision to switch to another accountant was as a response to slow enquiry response times.
Indeed, more than 70 per cent of firms polled by the company confirmed poor response times as their reason for wanting to change to another provider of accountancy services.
"Our team speak to hundreds of SMEs every month and they are telling us that many accountants are not providing a sufficient quality of service for their needs," said Mark Stockton, director of Just Accountants, a firm established in 2007.
"It is clear that the modern SME requires more than just bookkeeping and tax returns and the feeling is that accountants are just not delivering."
The organisation offers services relating to a number of areas, including those for payroll, VAT and bookkeeping.
