Britain's Conservative party has announced new proposals relating to parental leave.
Specifically targeting new parents, among the effects of the party's new proposals will be to enable both parents to jointly take joint time off from work, for a period of up to 26 weeks.
David Cameron, leader of the Conservative party since December 2005, said: "The world is changing. Men want to be more involved in bringing up their children. That's why flexibility is a really good thing."
In a report by Personnel Today, Susan Anderson, director of human resources policy at the Confederation of British Industry, added: "The Tories' proposals to consult employers on simplifying and reducing the costs of administering parental leave are welcome."
More generally, under the party's proposals, while it will be a requirement for women to initially take leave for a period of 14-weeks, after this initial period - and for the remaining available time - allocations can be more flexible.
In addition to both parents taking time off at the same time, it would also be possible for the woman to return to work, while the man stays at home.
