Employment levels in the UK have risen to a new high, it has been revealed.
According to the findings of the Office for National Statistics (ONS), the number of UK individuals in employment has risen to 29.46 million.
"Once again this is a strong set of figures. There have never been more people in work in the UK," said Stephen Timms, the UK's minister for employment.
"Our employment rate of 74.8 per cent continues to be above that of most other countries within the [European Union]."
Figures from the ONS also reveal that the number of vacancies across the UK is currently at a rate of 678,500.
Mr Timms also noted that, while it was once the case that entire cities and towns suffered from high levels of unemployment, this is no longer so.
Created in 1996, the ONS is a department of the government of the UK.
