New manslaughter legislation 'causing problems'
26 March 2008 18:08
Soon-to-be-introduced legislation relating to corporate manslaughter and corporate homicide is causing difficulties for the human resources (HR) sector, it has been claimed.
According to reports by Personnel Today, Gillian Hibberd, the HR director for Buckinghamshire County Council, has revealed in an interview with Employers' Law that problems are being presented by the forthcoming act, which received royal assent on July 26th 2007.
The new legislation enters into force on April 6th 2008 and is entitled the Corporate Manslaughter and Corporate Homicide Act 2007
However, the reference to corporate homicide is only applicable in Scotland, with Wales, England and Northern Ireland referring to the manslaughter element of the act.
"At least the new act brings clarity, even if it does add to the increasing burden of legislation that employers now have to contend with," said Ms Hibberd.
"[However,] it's causing headaches among HR colleagues and we all need to be preparing now for its introduction."
