AGCAS highlights benefits of employment with SMEs

28 March 2008 17:54

The Association of Graduate Careers Advisory Services (AGCAS) has sought to highlight the benefits of securing employment with a small to medium-sized enterprise (SME).

Margaret Dane, the chief executive of AGCAS, believes that despite the benefits of graduate trainee schemes, there are number of positives associated with working for a local SME.

Among the noted benefits is the relative ease with which one can make an impact within an SME and that while less formal, systems of support can also feel more personally-orientated.

Indeed, Ms Dane noted that the opportunities of a graduate trainee scheme are limited when compared with the number of graduates completing university each year.

"Graduate training schemes do provide valuable experience to the few who are lucky enough to be selected for them, but such opportunities are few in comparison to the numbers of graduates leaving university each year," said Ms Dane.
