Fawcett Society hits out against use of strip clubs for meetings

31 March 2008 17:50

The UK's Fawcett Society has criticised the use of strip clubs for business meetings in London.

Following the publication of a report showing the practice to be an increasingly common phenomenon with businesses located within the City, the Fawcett Society is calling for an end to the practice.

"Women have the right to dignity and respect in their workplaces and in their daily lives," said Dr Katherine Rake, Director of the Fawcett Society, an organisation which aims to achieve equality between women and men in a number of areas, including pay and politics.

"It is time for women and men to stand up against the sexist culture of objectifying women that has gripped our society."

Conducted on the organisation's behalf, the study uncovered a belief held by 59 per cent of women and 52 per cent of men, that the use of lap dancing venues with clients is not acceptable.
