Industrial action planned by workers on London Underground

31 March 2008 17:44

The implementation of a new wave of industrial action on London's underground rail service is being planned, it has emerged.

According to reports, trade unions have called for the implementation of 72-hours of industrial action, scheduled to take place early in April.

The industrial action will involve over 7,500 union members.

"Significant progress has already been made and most of the issues have been agreed. There is simply no reason for a strike, or even the threat of one, as all of the issues being raised can be resolved," said Howard Collins, the deputy chief operating officer at the London Underground.

Taking place between April 6th and April 9th, the strike will include members of the Transport & Salaried Staffs' Association and the National Union of Rail, Maritime & Transport Workers.

The legal action is in response to a multi-faceted dispute, involving a wide range of issues such as safety and the use of workers from agencies.
