FSB highlights barriers faced by SMEs to being green

The UK's Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) has sought to highlight the barriers faced by small to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) looking to be environmentally conscious.
Andrew Cave, a representative from the FSB, believes that the two primary obstacles for SMEs looking to operate in as environmentally-friendly a way was as they wish are those surrounding implementation and problems caused by insufficient levels of information.
"We hear a lot about government initiatives and a lot of regulation linked to environmental issues but it is not often communicated to small businesses in a way that makes it easy for them to understand how it is they need to comply," said Mr Cave.
Potentially impacting upon an SMEs image with environmentally-conscious potential employees, Mr Cave noted that even in respect of paper recycling, such a thing is difficult for an SME if their local authority does not provide the necessary recycling facilities.
Established in 1974, the FSB has a membership base of more than 205,000.
