PwC highlights growing financial cost of serious diseases

A new survey by professional services firm PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) has revealed a projected cost increase for businesses in relation to the effects of chronic diseases.
Prepared in partnership with the World Economic Forum, the report reveals that the cost to businesses of dealing with the effects of serious diseases, such as cancer, is to increase significantly, reports Online Recruitment.
"Workplace wellness is evolving from a project for the [human resources] HR department to a priority, and drawing the highest levels of attention from senior management and government," said Michael Thompson, principal for global HR services at PwC.
And according to the World Health Organisation, chronic diseases are the primary cause of mortality.
The report found that over the course of the next 25 years, the impact of such diseases will be felt in a number of different ways, such as affecting financial markets, investments and savings.
Other diseases defined as chronic include heart disease and diabetes.
