Britain's Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has issued advice for businesses in the north-east, in relation to the use of chemicals in the workplace.
Relating to businesses who make use of chemicals, or engage in their manufacture or supply, the HSE has issued advice in relation to the Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals, also known as Reach.
These regulations of the European Union entered into force on June 1st 2007
"Reach is not just about the chemicals industry. The regulations apply to a host of familiar things that we all have contact with - metals, glues, paints, solvents, detergents, plastics, polishes, pens, computers to name but some; aspects of Reach touch on them all," said Richard Bishop, an inspector for the HSE in the north-east.
The HSE has also confirmed that a business briefing will be held in Newcastle on April 17th.
