Bonuses 'expected by 40% of employees'

21 April 2008 17:59

A new survey has revealed the expectations of workers in the UK regarding this year's bonus payments.

Research by Investec has shown that 40 per cent of UK employees expect to receive a bonus this year, with a national average of £14,600 per worker - although a lucky 84,000 can expect over £100,000 for the 2007-08 financial year.

A foreign holiday was the most popular choice of what to do with all that extra money, with 27 per cent taking a trip at the boss's expense.

However, not everyone will be splashing the cash, as a sensible 22 per cent claim they will be putting the money into their savings and another 22 per cent will use their bonus to pay off debts, the figure showed.

This news follows a recent claim by the British Retail Consortium that the planned rise in minimum wage may negatively effect career progression across UK workplaces.
