Office workers in finance jobs and other sectors may be divided in opinion on a new survey that suggests most workers would like to see a ban on Facebook in the workplace.

Online company Ciao Surveys polled 1,000 people for the research and found that 69.5 per cent of Uk citizens believe social networking sites should be outlawed in offices, OnRec reports.

However, opinion is split among prime target users - the 18 to 24 age group - with only 42.1 per cent supporting the ban, compared to 78.7 percent of those aged 55-pluss, the website states.

The research also defied the myth that older age groups do not use social networking sites, as 39.6 per cent of over 55s admitted to using such forums, with Friends Reunited the most popular among the age group.

IT professional firm Ciao Surveys is the industry's largest online research questionnaire provider, with an international network spanning North and South America, Australia, Europe, Asia and Africa.
