CBI challenges mayor to improve London for businesses and workers
30 April 2008 18:16
The UK's premier lobbying agency for business interests has urged London mayoral candidates to adopt a "can do" approach to the capital's many issues.
Those employed in business development jobs may agree with the Confederation of British Industry's (CBI) assertion that initiatives encouraging small and medium-sized enterprises should be viewed as a priority concern by all the candidates.
Director of CBI London Nigel Bourne commented that the successful candidate must be up to "implementing the skills strategy outlined by the business-led London Skills and Employment Board".
He added that the CBI is looking forward to working with the new Mayor of London to "help make London a pre-eminent destination to live, work and do business".
Further challenges facing the new mayor identified by the CBI include adequate preparation for the 2012 Olympic Games and delivery of the Crossrail service.
The four main competitors for the post of London Mayor are Labour's Ken Livingstone, Conservative Boris Johnson, the Green party's Sian Berry and The Liberal Democrat's Brian Paddick.
