Acas disciplinary and grievance code 'under revision'

14 May 2008 14:51

Acas's (Advisory, Conciliation and Arbitration Service) code of practice for grievance and disciplinary procedures is currently undergoing a process of revision, it has emerged.

John Taylor, the chief executive for Acas has revealed that the code of practice is currently being revised by the UK government - a process which will see the removal of the dismissal and statutory discipline procedure.

This procedure has been in operation since 2004.

"Our current code of practice is being revised as the government are in the process of removing the statutory discipline and dismissal procedure," said Mr Taylor.

"The code of practice provides clear guidance for employers and employees in how disciplinary and grievance situations should be handled in the workplace."

Established in 1975, Acas receives a significant amount of funding by the Department for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform and is governed by a council which is wholly independent.
