22 May 2008 17:04
There has been a fall in the number of eastern European migrant workers who are coming to the UK, it has been reported by personneltoday.com.
The number of these migrant workers who are applying to come to the UK is at the lowest level in three years, figures by the Home Office have revealed.
There was a 13 per cent decrease in the first quarter of 2008 in the number of applications from the same time period last year.
Immigration minister Liam Byrne commented: "People in Britain welcome legal migrants who work hard and play by the rules. But we will not tolerate law breakers, which is why we will prioritise their expulsion from Britain."
As well as less migrant workers coming to seek employment in the UK, there is also a larger number of eastern European workers who are leaving the UK according to a study conducted by the Institute of Public Policy Research.
Indian immigrants are the "most welcomed group" in the UK, according to the Hindustan Times.
