Change means 'winning hearts of staff'

30 June 2008 07:59

More than half of UK business leaders believe winning the hearts and minds is the biggest challenge when it come to making changes, a study shows.

Research commissioned by Celerant Consulting reveals most change programmes tend to fail, with many bosses saying half or fewer of relevant initiatives they have undertaken in the past five years have been successful.

A lack of buy-in from local management was also listed as a big problem alongside the number one concern of convincing staff.

Celerant chief executive Ian Clarkson said: "In order to successfully deliver change, leaders need to inspire people with a sense of urgency, have a clearly communicated vision and plan and continually motivate staff."

The figures could make interesting reading for those seeking jobs in credit control, as they also showed UK leaders spend more on change initiatives than their counterparts in any other nation.

Onerec.com recently reported health and safety expert Croner is urging UK businesses to review health and safety procedures before allowing young people in on work experience.
