Recruitment sector 'buoyant'

17 July 2008 16:50

The jobs market is in a healthy state, according to the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD).

As reported by magazine Personnel Today, despite a 12,000 rise in unemployment reported by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) yesterday, the recruitment industry - which could include tax and credit controller jobs - remains busy.

Gerwyn Davies, public policy adviser at the CIPD, said: "Yet again, the jobs figures continue to defy the woes experienced by the rest of the economy."

But she added the government would be hoping for better economic news by the end of the year as the ONS figures do not include redundancies announced recently.

The news comes as another report shows UK workers are not happy to tell their families how much they earn.

Personnel Today said the research by Ceridian found that 53 per cent of respondents said they never share their salary details with their families, while one in six would never ask for a salary increase. One in 33 said they would rather leave their job than ask for more money.
