companies, according to an article on Online Recruitment.
Of 500 business owners interviewed, 86 per cent said they offered flexible working hours and a further 93 per cent said they would offer it even if it was not a legal obligation.
Kirsten Hemingway from IoD said: "The benefits are enormous. For example if you are working globally, flexible working means you can stay 'open' for longer. You save money on office space if they work from home and that means you cut down on your carbon footprint."
Ms Hemingway suggested employers monitor their home-based employees performance, make sure they had regular office contact through chat rooms or forums, regular meetings and be wary of giving promotions just to office-based workers.
The report also found companies offering flexible working discovered increased productivity and profitability, offered better customer service and improved staff retention rates.
According to the government, flexible working can include annualised, compressed or staggered hours, job sharing or home working. All of these may be useful considerations for those looking at jobs in the marketing sector as newer technology means more tasks can be completed away from the office.
