Staff 'should strive for work-life balance'

25 July 2008 14:33

A life coach has urged employees to strive for a good work-life balance and focus their efforts on working smarter rather than harder.

Lynette Allen warned that workers are under increasing pressure to perform well at work and are often unable to switch off when they leave the office.

Individuals with jobs in tax, hedge fund jobs or other high-intensity professions may be working for longer periods and have to be available at all hours.

Ms Allen said: "Ultimately I do think the responsibility lies with us to work out where our time is spent so we can bring a balance into life."

She added it is vital for workers to be able to control their own time and how they spend it.

A recent survey from Life Healthcare revealed 35 per cent of adults find it hard to de-stress and switch off after work.
