UK employees stay focussed on work during holidays

British workers are unable to become completely switch off from work during their summer holiday, research has indicated.

A study by insurance company More Than revealed that 3.6 million British people were not able to properly unwind from work during their summer holiday.

A quarter of respondents indicated that they failed to leave work stress behind while on their break, with 37 per cent using a Blackberry or another communications device to stay connected with the office.

Moreover, employees working in position such as tax jobs in London also put in extra hours before their break in preparation for the time off.

Keith Maxwell, head of travel insurance at More Than, said that "it seems that coming home from holiday feeling relaxed and recharged is a thing of the past for many of us".

"When post holiday blues hit, it used to be because we had returned from a relaxing break. Now it seems we come home just as stressed as we went."

"We want to encourage holidaymakers to relax properly so they return feeling recharged and at their most productive ready to face new challenges in their job," he added.
