Popularity of personnel screening 'increasing'

Personnel screening is increasing in popularity, according to one industry expert who works in a pre-employment personnel screening company that offers the software to financial services firms.
Alexandra Kelly, director at Powerchex, explained that this is mainly because companies, including those who hire employees to do
accountancy jobs, "want to make sure that their systems client data, and all other data, remains secure".
Ms Kelly added that personnel screening is "in conjunction with a lot of internal controls companies will put in place or have put in place to make sure that anybody who could potentially endanger data is, to some degree, screened".
As far as any apprehension about personnel screening is concerned, Ms Kelly explained that "screening is quite tightly regulated".
She noted: "Everything has to be done with the consent of the applicant. The applicant signs a form saying they are happy for employer to make these checks. Nothing is done secretly."
According to Datanomic, failure to accurately screen clients exposes organisations to unacceptable risk.
